ZUMSTEIN Matthias
Professor Matthias Zumstein is currently Section Head of Shoulder, Elbow and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Sonnenhof Orthopaedics in Bern, Switzerland. He was Section Head of Shoulder, Elbow Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and also Senior Consultant of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, at the Bern University Hospital (Inselspital) Bern, Switzerland. Professor Zumstein was Deputy Clinical Director until 2019. Professor Zumstein is also an active member of Sportclinic #1, Bern.
He had the privilege of completing his research and clinical fellowships in shoulder surgery with Professor Christian Gerber in Zurich, Switzerland and Professor Pascal Boileau in Nice, France. He also completed a clinical fellowship in elbow and wrist surgery at the University Hospital in Adelaide, Australia with Professor Greg Bain.
Professor Zumstein is an elected board member of the Swiss Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (Swiss Orthopaedics), and editor of the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. Furthermore, he served in the board of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC/ESSSE) for several years.
Professor Zumstein has an extensive research pedigree with more than 65 peer-reviewed publications, 15 book chapters, and more than 200 presentations at national and international congresses - including 100 invited presentations. He is a two-time Charles S. Neer Award winner from the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons – this is the highest honour in shoulder and elbow surgery research in the world.
