Brorson Stig

Stig Brorson is a clinical professor in orthopedic surgery at the University of Copenhagen, and a consultant shoulder surgeon at Zealand University Hospital, Denmark. He holds a Ph.D. degree in medical philosophy and a doctoral degree in fractures of the proximal humerus. He is the founding leader of the independent Centre for Evidence-Based Orthopedics. Stig has published more than 150 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.

His scholarly work covers most aspects of proximal humerus fractures, including their cultural history, taxonomy, epidemiology, diagnostics, classification, clinical decision-making, evidence-based management, outcome assessment, and complications. In his clinical work, Stig is responsible for treating 250 elderly patients with shoulder fractures annually, with less than 5 percent being treated surgically. He has conducted national and international multi-center studies and summarized current evidence in clinical guidelines, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses. Stig is an advocate of evidence-based shoulder surgery, and he has questioned the benefits of surgical interventions in proximal humerus fractures in the elderly.
